11 of 30: I Wanna Be a Supermodel

Gap sweater and cords, Target flats, gifted scarf

It wasn't the best time of day to take pictures, which is why I sorta wandered all around trying to find some satisfactory light.

This silk scarf is left over from hubs' art school days. (Yeah, I married an art school guy. He was a weaver. For real.) I think the scarf is from a fabric dying class, or something like that. Apparently they would just have random scraps of different types of textiles lying around and they would try out different techniques. This scarf is one such scrap that I loved. Again, it feeds my scarf obsession.

As for the post title, at work we have a very nice, very sweet UPS guy. He always chats a bit. Talks about races he used to run (I work for a company that puts on half marathons, 5ks and triathlons), what he's doing over the weekend, things like that.

And often he compliments me on my clothes/how I look. Not in a creepy "ew" way, but in a very respectable, flattering way. Yesterday, he asked me if I've ever thought about modeling. He told me I had everything I needed to be a model. I'd say that's a good start to a good weekend.

And, yes, I realize I wore this sweater yesterday.

Friend Friday: Color Wars

Finally getting time to do another Fashion/Beauty Friend Friday this week. Thanks, ModlyChic for facilitating a fun group post!

1. What color dominates your closet? Is denim a color? JK. Maybe some jewel tones. Like purple and fuscia and teal. But also a lot of grey and black and white.
2. If money weren’t an issue how would you change the color emphasis in your closet? I don't know if I'd emphasize color so much as prints. Well, colorful prints. They seem to be the main thing missing in the majority of my closet.
3. What is your mantra about mixing colors? I like mixing mostly neutrals with pops of color (see photo above). You know, throwing a colorful cardigan over a black and white palette. Or a bright dress with neutral dress and cardigan.
4. For you, how do you incorporate color into your outfits? Scarves, mainly. I love colorful scarves. And I believe that a woman can never have enough scarves. Particularly in San Francisco. Even in the warmest temperatures a light scarf is usually called for.
5. Which blogger(s) do you think do a good job of incorporating color into their wardrobe? I think Erin does a good job, because she incorporates colorful prints into otherwise neutral palettes. And Tania also mixes color nicely, in a subtle way. Bright and bold color palettes all the time don't necessarily a color genius make.

30 of 30: One Third of the Way There!

Hooray and congrats to those who have made it one third of the way there! It's been surprisingly easy thus far. And very inspiring, seeing everyone else's outfits. Have y'all realized that you still have several items* you haven't worn yet? Isn't that great?

Anyhoo, I think my favorite looks from the first ten days are #6, #8 and #10. Which ones do you like best?

*Still no poncho yet. Still trying to figure out how to work it in. Suggestions are welcome. Just slip them in the suggestion box.

10 of 30!

Target plaid tunic, Gap sweater, Prana leggings, Madden boots, Gap Socks, Old Navy scarf, H&M bracelet

Lunch! Quinoa salad with raw asparagus, red onion, garlic, dill and lemon juice

Today was a swell day. It just was. Some of it had to do with this outfit. I love it. This morning I couldn't decide between the black combat boots or these westernish boots. I was swayed by the color. This outfit just needed some. (Hence the scarf as well.)

So tonight I--sadly? happily?--broke my food allergen fast. You see, the hubs and I wanted to go out for Valentine's Day, and we like having a classy meal with several courses on a special occasion. The problem? Restaurants are always more expensive and packed with couples (go figure!) on Valentine's Day. And we like to be ahead of the game. Besides, we have a date (a double date!) next Tuesday to see the Broadway tour of "Avenue Q!"

So hubs suggested going out tonight. To this place. The prix fixe menu came with a wine pairing for each course. Classy! Every once in a while we like to class it up. So tonight was our early Valentine's Day date, and it was delightful. Yes, I broke just about every aspect of my fast, but it was well worth it to spend some quality meal time with my sweetie. And learn all about fabric and garment dyeing techniques (don't worry about it).

(Besides, I'll probably continue some aspects of the fast indefinitely. I'll at least be switching to almond milk and only having cow milk when eating ice cream, etc.)

9 of 30: Exciting Discovery

Gap top and cords, Old Navy jacket, Madden boots, F21 belt

You remember the movie "Romeo + Juliet"? The one from 1996 with Leo and Claire Danes? The one with the astoundingly awesome soundtrack? I just realized it's on Netflix instant stream.

Oh. My. Stars.

This was my favorite movie (and soundtrack) at the time. I don't know how many times I watched it, but I can't wait to watch it again on Netflix. When I'm allowed to eat popcorn again. (See post 1 of 30.) Because I just won't watch one of my favorite movies without popcorn.

Also, I need more skinny belts. Because the only two I have are this gold one and the brown one I wore yesterday. Put that on the list of things to buy after 30 for 30 is over.

Tomorrow my gal pals (wow, I'll never use that phrase again) are coming over for dinner and a movie. And we're going to attempt to make allergen-free milkshakes. Involving raw cacao and vanilla extract and almond milk. Yum.

And I do realize that these pictures are poor. I took them at lunchtime. The worst time ever to take outdoor photos. Ah, well. Lesson learned.

Sweaty Wednesday: Asthmatic Bethy

Blue Collar Catwalk

Top: from San Silvestre 10k in Guatemala (The back says "Tomorrow is a new opportunity.")    Armwarmers: Nike Women's Marathon    Tights: Asics    Shoes: Brooks    Hat: Nike

See what I did there? Like Asthmatic Kitty? Sufjan Stevens' record label?

Anyhoo, this is what I look like when after a run. Tired. But happy. My exercise-induced asthma is seriously kicking my butt. And I need an inhaler refill (or replacement? Do you refill or replace inhalers?).

8 of 30: New Favorite Blouse

Blouse: Gap    Jeans: J. Brand    Cardigan: Target    Boots: Madden    Scarf: gifted    Belt: F21

Well, it's not so new. I bought it before Christmas but have only worn it a couple of times. Beats me why. I love it. I loved it so much that I actually stalked it at Gap before buying it. I waited for it to go on sale and, when it did, they were having one of those crazy percentage off sale items days. So I grabbed it. Glad I did. I need more blouses.

Enough about the blouse.

How bout that belt? I bought it to wear to my Masters thesis defense along with a pencil skirt and blazer. I suppose it was successful, 'cause I passed with minor alterations. That was after I successfully deleted my whole thesis. It was right before the department "Congrats Masters Graduates" party and I was scrambling to finish some edits.

I grabbed my jump drive out of the computer to dash over to the party (one door over form the office) and, when I returned to finish my edits, it was gone. The whole thing. Wiped from my jump drive.

I had to go back to the party to ask my advisor to lend me the hard copy I had given to her. Fortunately, I had the few extra pages I had written saved separately. But I did have to retype all 50-something pages.

In Spanish.

In just a few hours.

Whew.

Ok, I think two random stories for the night just about does it, don't you?

(As a side note, the wind joined in the photo shoot today. Can you tell?)
